The pale stone Haussmann façade gives little indication of the decoration inside. Black granite, velvet, crystal chandeliers and mirrored ceilings run through the public rooms and accommodation. This is a deliberately ornate hotel, with a bar and patio for a quieter break from the streets around Saint-Lazare.

The room choice matters here. Superior rooms start at 20 m², while the Diamond suites add steam showers and the 47 m² Incomparable Suite has a balcony overlooking the Saint-Lazare esplanade. Some categories offer twin beds, balconies or accessible layouts, so request the feature you need when reserving.

The address suits trips built around the department stores, Palais Garnier and rail connections from Saint-Lazare. Breakfast can be taken in the hotel, in your room or as a takeaway. The hotel has its own fitness room, while the pool and spa advertised through its concierge belong to the separate Maison Albar – Le Pont-Neuf hotel.

History & cultural connections

From Opéra Diamond to Maison Albar

The hotel opened in August 2009 as the Best Western Premier Opéra Diamond. A press file published by its hotel group records 30 rooms at the same address, 4 rue de la Pépinière. The original four-star property was already aimed at visitors to the department stores, businesses and Saint-Lazare station.[1]

For the Hôtel Opéra Diamond’s 2009 opening, designer Alexandre Danan created interiors inspired by jewelry. The hotel group described black quartz, Bohemian crystal chandeliers and Swarovski crystal details. Bedrooms combined imitation crocodile-skin wallpaper with curtains reproducing a portrait by photographer Jean Clemmer. These were contemporary additions inside the older Parisian facade.[1]

The current Maison Albar hotel is larger, with 52 rooms and 20 suites, and is presented as a five-star property. Crystal, dark polished surfaces and patterned fabrics still define its interiors. Its accommodation now extends to suites with steam showers and a 47 m² top category overlooking the Saint-Lazare esplanade.[2][3][4]
