History & cultural connections
The lion of rue du Helder
The hotel’s official history places its façade in the 1880s and credits architect Claude David. The ornamental exterior belongs to the address’s earlier life, before the contemporary Maison Albar interiors were introduced.[1]
The same account identifies an earlier Lyon d’Or hotel, restaurant and cabaret, and cites descriptions from Le Matin in 1884 and Grand-Carteret in 1886.[1]
The present design carries the earlier name into a golden-lion motif used through the hotel and garden. Interiors by Fabien Roque, with architecture by Atelier COS, combine emerald tones, gold, marble and parquet, turning that historical reference into the visual language of a hotel with a pool and spa.[1]
