History & cultural connections

The history of Hôtel Adèle & Jules and cité Rougemont

Cité Rougemont takes its name from rue Rougemont, which runs nearby. Rue Rougemont was opened in 1844 on the site of the town house of the banker Rougemont de Löwenberg, and the lane's street plaque records the same origin.[1][2]

The French business register lists the company Hotel Rex at 4 bis cité Rougemont from 1955 until the end of 2015. The same company reopened the two buildings as Hôtel Adèle & Jules in 2016. The de Lattre family, which also runs Hôtel Thérèse and Hôtel Récamier, owns and manages it.[3][4][5][6]

The architects Artefak (Bastie & Behzadi) designed the conversion, and the interior designer Stéphane Poux decorated the rooms. The hotel describes its two buildings as a brother and sister, and the names Adèle and Jules refer to the two buildings.[7][8][9]

Further along the lane, at number 10, the Société des gens de lettres, the French writers' association, had its headquarters from 1869 until the late 1920s. Émile Zola was elected its president in 1891. Number 10 is a separate building from the hotel.[10][11][12]
