History & cultural connections
Haussmann architecture, reworked for a contemporary hotel
The Bowmann’s architectural identity starts with its cut-stone façade, mouldings and cornices. The hotel’s account points to high ceilings on the principal floors and continuous balconies as defining elements of the building’s Haussmann character.[1]
Designer Laurent Maugoust led the renovation with an emphasis on preserving the neoclassical setting and the atmosphere of a private Parisian house. Original marble fireplaces, chandeliers and monumental mirrors give the rooms a decorative framework that survives the change to modern hotel use.[1]
The new furnishings span different periods: leather headboards sit alongside Maison Charles lighting, Knoll and Argenta chairs and Toulemonde Bochart rugs. Champagne, powder pink, royal red and white distinguish the floors, turning an inherited architectural vocabulary into varied contemporary interiors.[1]
