Hôtel de Nell stands at 7–9 rue du Conservatoire in the 9th arrondissement, on the corner of rue Sainte-Cécile. The neo-Gothic church of Saint-Eugène-Sainte-Cécile is directly opposite, and the former Paris Conservatoire is further along the same street. The hotel lists Grands Boulevards (lines 8 and 9), Cadet and Le Peletier (line 7) as the nearest Métro stations, and puts the Palais Garnier 10 to 15 minutes away on foot.

The 33 rooms and suite are in five categories. Classic rooms (22 m²) face the inner courtyard, and Superior rooms (26 m²) look across to the church. Deluxe (30 m²) and Prestige (35 m²) rooms sleep up to three and have both a bathtub and a walk-in shower; Esprit de France, the collection the hotel belongs to, describes marble Japanese-style baths in both. The 55 m² Junior Suite has a separate living room and a wrap-around balcony over the rooftops.

The ground floor has a bar with a veranda and a wine library, open through the day. A treatment room offers Sothy's facial and body treatments, which can also be given in your room, every day from 9 am to 9 pm. There is no pool or gym, and the hotel lists no restaurant at present. Room service runs from 11 am to 10 pm.

History & cultural connections

The history of Hôtel de Nell

Rue du Conservatoire and rue Sainte-Cécile were both opened by a decree of 30 November 1853 on the grounds of the former Garde-Meuble, the state furniture store. Rue du Conservatoire is named after the national conservatoire of music and drama nearby.[1]

The hotel occupies two apartment buildings from the middle of the 19th century. The corner building at number 7 is richly decorated around its windows. Number 9 was built around 1860 by the architect Jules Amoudru, and pairs of caryatid busts frame its first-floor windows. Both buildings are protected under the Paris local urban plan.[2]

Before its conversion, the site held a two-star hotel. The Charm & More group had the two buildings stripped back to their structure and rebuilt inside to plans by the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. The works took 23 months, and Hôtel de Nell opened in early 2013 with 33 rooms.[3][4][2]

The church opposite, Saint-Eugène-Sainte-Cécile, was built in 1854–1855 by the architect Louis-Auguste Boileau, who gave it a self-supporting iron frame. It has been a listed historic monument since 1983.[5]
