History & cultural connections
Two architectural periods and a changing hotel name
The property combines a 19th-century Haussmannian apartment building with an adjoining hotel in Ricardo Bofill’s postmodern style. Ascott’s 2016 announcement explicitly separates the two buildings, rather than attributing the older structure to Bofill. This contrast is central to the residence’s architectural identity.[1]
Ascott acquired the property in 2011 and included it in a wider refurbishment program. Previously known as Citadines Suites Arc de Triomphe Paris, it became La Clef Tour Eiffel when The Crest Collection launched in April 2016. The brand’s launch ceremony was held at this property, placing it at the center of Ascott’s new luxury-residence collection.[1]
Another refurbishment was underway in 2023. CapitaLand’s October announcement described a 112-unit property and a phased project planned for completion ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games; it also stated that the hotel remained operational during the work. The current hotel presents rooms and apartments whose decoration takes inspiration from the 1889 Universal Exhibition, linking the renewed interiors to the era of the nearby Eiffel Tower.[2][3]
