History & cultural connections

The history of 5 rue Louis-Codet

Rue Louis-Codet was opened in 1931 on land owned by the society La France Mutualiste. In 1934 it was named after Louis Codet (1876–1914), a writer who was killed in the First World War.[1]

The hotel occupies a telephone exchange built in the 1930s and later used by France Télécom. In 2011 the City of Paris recorded it as a building of four floors above the ground floor, used for offices and a public service. A permit approved in February 2012 allowed it to be converted into a hotel, with rebuilt floors, new windows and renovated façades.[2][3][4]

The company CHG Participations, directed by Richard Guillard, created the hotel. Le Cinq Codet opened in autumn 2014, with interiors by Jean-Philippe Nuel. In July 2016 Hélène Martel replaced CHG Participations as president of the company that runs the hotel. Since 2020 that company has been headed by PX Holding, which runs the 2L Collection of hotels. The collection also includes Château d'Audrieu in Normandy and Hôtel Atmosphères in the 5th arrondissement.[5][3][6][7][8]

Next door, at 1–5 rue Joseph-Granier, La France Mutualiste commissioned a group of apartment buildings in 1932. The City of Paris protects them in its local plan for their curved corners and wide windows, which show the influence of the streamlined ocean-liner style of the period.[9]
