The history of 19 boulevard de La Tour-Maubourg
Boulevard de La Tour-Maubourg is named after Marie Victor de Fay, Marquis de La Tour-Maubourg (1768–1850), a French general who became governor of Les Invalides. Its northern section, where the hotel stands, was opened by a decree of 1858.[1]
The hotel occupies a building of six levels with a façade in the Haussmann style. Before 2014 it held offices, and two military associations, one of them for the families of serving soldiers, were registered at the address until 2013. A permit approved in September 2014 allowed the conversion of the offices into a hotel, with a spa in the basement.[2][3]
Le Narcisse Blanc opened in the summer of 2016. It is owned and run by companies of Financière Messine, renamed Racines Entreprises in 2025, which took control of the building between 2013 and 2015. The hotel belongs to the group's Lignée collection, alongside La Maison Favart near the Opéra-Comique.[4][5][6][7]
The hotel takes its theme from Cléo de Mérode (1875–1966), a celebrated dancer of the Belle Époque. The hotel says that her friend the composer Reynaldo Hahn nicknamed her "pretty little narcissus". The restaurant is named Cléo, and the bar is named after King Leopold II of Belgium, whose rumoured affair with her caused a scandal in the late 19th century. Cléo de Mérode is not known to have had any connection with this building.[8][9]
Across the boulevard, a plaque at number 22 records that the poet Anna de Noailles was born there on 15 November 1876, under her birth name, Anna de Brancovan.[10]
