The hotel is at 17 rue du Mont-Thabor in the 1st arrondissement, on the corner of rue de Castiglione, the short street that leads from the Tuileries Garden to Place Vendôme. Tuileries station on Métro line 1 is about 210 meters away. Concorde (lines 1, 8 and 12) is about 400 meters away, and Pyramides (lines 7 and 14) about 450 meters.

The rooms are spread over seven floors. Each is dedicated to a woman who, the hotel says, shares a history with Paris, such as George Sand, Marie Curie, Josephine Baker or Maria Callas, and its fabrics and artworks refer to her. The ten rooms measure 18 to 25 m². Most suites and apartments measure 38 to 47 m² and have a dining area, and the larger apartments have a full kitchen.

Frida, the restaurant and bar, is named after the painter Frida Kahlo, whose work inspired its colorful decor. It sits in a courtyard pavilion with a small planted terrace and is open every day from 7 am to midnight, serving breakfast, lunch, tapas from 3 pm, dinner and weekend brunch. Desserts are by the pastry chef Christophe Adam. The SeeMy spa adds an infrared sauna, an ice bath and a Technogym fitness room.

History & cultural connections

The history of Maison Barrière Vendôme

The hotel's corner building has two street addresses, 17 rue du Mont-Thabor and 8 rue de Castiglione, on a single plot of land. Its earlier tenants and its building permits used the Castiglione address. Rue de Castiglione was opened by a government decree of 9 October 1801. It is named after General Napoleon Bonaparte's victory over the Austrians at Castiglione, in northern Italy, in 1796. Rules set between 1801 and 1823 require the buildings on the street to follow a symmetrical design with arcades open to the public, and the hotel building has arcades at street level.[1][2][3]

Before the conversion, the building held shops and offices. The sportswear company Lacoste had its registered office at 8 rue de Castiglione in 2008 and moved it to rue de Provence, in the 9th arrondissement, in 2013. In 2024 Le Figaro described the building as Lacoste's former head office.[3][4][5][6]

On 26 October 2016 the City of Paris approved turning the office building, which has a ground floor, seven upper floors and a basement, into a hotel and a shop. The plans called for restoring the original window openings on the courtyard façades and adding a glazed structure on the courtyard roof. An amended permit in September 2019 added structural work, the restoration of the main staircase and a basement spa, and cut the planned number of rooms from 29 to 25. Le Figaro reported that the Frida restaurant's courtyard pavilion was built under a steel structure lifted in by crane.[3][6]

The building is owned by the Evens group of the businesswoman Corinne Evens, who founded the jewelry brand Goralska. Groupe Barrière, a French hotel group, runs the hotel for the owner. Maison Barrière Vendôme is the first hotel Barrière has opened under the Maison Barrière name. Corinne Evens chose the women to whom the rooms are dedicated. The designer Daniel Jibert decorated the rooms with French craft firms such as the fabric house Pierre Frey, the trimmings maker Declercq and the glassmaker Lalique.[7][6][8][13]

The hotel opened on 9 January 2025. Atout France, the national tourism agency that grades hotels, classified it as a five-star hotel on 18 February 2025. The spa, created with the beauty brand See My Cosmetics, opened in 2026. In February 2026 the asset manager Mimco took a minority stake on behalf of a group of private investors, and Corinne Evens kept the majority, according to the property news site CFNEWS Immo.[9][10][11][12][13]
