History & cultural connections
Nolinski Paris and the avenue de l'Opéra
Nolinski Paris opened in 2016 in a Haussmann-style stone building on avenue de l'Opéra. It was the first Paris hotel of the Evok group, and Jean-Louis Deniot designed its interiors.[1][2]
Avenue de l'Opéra was cut through the old streets between the Louvre and the new opera house during Baron Haussmann's rebuilding of Paris. In 1879, while the avenue was still new, the painter Gustave Caillebotte rented rooms in an unfinished building at number 28, a short walk up the avenue from the hotel. He organised, hung and largely paid for the fourth Impressionist exhibition there.[3][4]
In late 1897 Camille Pissarro took a room at the Hôtel du Louvre, at the southern end of the avenue, and painted the view from his window. He produced around eleven paintings during the stay, including views of avenue de l'Opéra itself.[4]
