History & cultural connections
From Maison Boutet to a Bastille hotel
Architect Achille Champy built Maison Boutet on rue Faidherbe in 1926. The company supplied wood to local craftspeople through two branches, Bois Exotiques and Bois de Pays. Its premises stood in a neighborhood associated with furniture-making and other skilled trades.[1][2]
Maison Boutet’s Art Deco facade used ochre mosaics made by Gentil & Bourdet. Friezes displayed the company’s name and those of its two branches. Chocolate production later took place in the building, and manufacturing had ended by the mid-1980s. The premises then served as offices.[2][1]
A restoration led by Vincent Bastie and Astrid Dieterlen preserved the building’s industrial exterior. Interior designer Bruno Borrione worked on its conversion into a hotel. The property opened within Accor’s MGallery collection in 2015, keeping the Boutet name and the decorative facade.[2]
The hotel’s design also includes work by students from École Boulle, the Paris school of art and design. Today, Maison Boutet contains 80 rooms and suites, including eight with terraces. The building’s former industrial uses remain visible in its name, materials and preserved street frontage.[1][3]
