Between the wars a magazine was often where a book appeared first, in extracts and installments, months or years before a publisher would take it. The periodicals here did that work, usually on a patron’s money and rarely for long.

A magazine gets a page here when the research holds enough to write one — who ran it, who paid for it, and what it printed. The magazines below are in the atlas because a writer’s page needed to point at them, and they carry a sourced edge and a description until that work is done.
Collier's
American weekly that carried Martha Gellhorn's war reporting from Spain in 1937 through the Second World War, and whose single European accreditation she lost to Hemingway in 1944.
Vogue
Condé Nast's fashion monthly, whose Paris operation employed Pauline Pfeiffer when she arrived in the city in 1925.
