History & cultural connections

The history of the Hôtel Mac Mahon

The hotel at 3 avenue Mac Mahon operated as the Hôtel Mac Mahon before taking the Maison Albar name. Paris Inn Group’s press kit describes its earlier life as a three-star hotel in a Haussmannian building. A major renovation transformed it into the 40-room Hôtel Champs Elysées Mac Mahon, which the group inaugurated in 2012 as a four-star property.[1]

For the Hôtel Champs Elysées Mac Mahon renovation completed in 2012, interior designer Alexandre Danan and his European Design Office Consulting agency combined contemporary furniture with nineteenth-century Empire style. The Empire references connect the interior to the Napoleonic era. Paris Inn Group’s project description also named original paintings by the Serbian artist Vuk Vidor as part of the redesign.[1][2]

The hotel now trades as Maison Albar – Le Champs-Elysées and has five stars. Its present interiors retain the contrast between classical decoration and modern objects: Venetian chandeliers, mirrors, velvet upholstery and reworked French paintings appear in the rooms. In the lobby, a pale sphinx sculpture and a rhinoceros sculpture sit near the seating and raised bar.[3][4][5]
