History & cultural connections
The history of Hôtel Monsieur Aristide
The street was called rue Ménessier until 1928, when it was renamed after Aristide Bruant (1851–1925), the Montmartre cabaret singer. Bruant sang at Le Chat Noir cabaret, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec drew him for his posters. The hotel takes its name from the street. Bruant is not known to have had any link to the building.[1][2][3]
The building was previously the Hôtel du Moulin. In 2018 Nicolas Saltiel, the founder of the Chapitre Six hotel group, took control of the company that ran it, and the hotel reopened as Monsieur Aristide on 15 August 2021. The interior designer Marion Collard opened up an inner garden and terraces and made the terrazzo floors of the lounge and restaurant from rubble salvaged during the building works.[4][5][3]
