The history of this address
In the 1920s, the Grand Hôtel Taranne stood here, with a café called À la Reine Blanche downstairs. A photograph from that time shows the café on the ground floor and the hotel above it. Today, the hotel at this address is Hôtel Au Manoir Saint-Germain.[1][2]
James Baldwin later visited a bar called La Reine Blanche on boulevard Saint-Germain. Biographers link that bar to his novel Giovanni's Room. We haven't confirmed whether it was the same café shown in the 1920s photograph, or that Baldwin stayed at the hotel.
