The hotel occupies part of a former convent site on a narrow street off rue de Rennes. Its public rooms combine patterned upholstery, bookshelves and a fireplace, with a glass-roofed sitting area looking onto the garden. Outside, ivy, a fountain and tables occupy the enclosed terrace.
Rooms have individual decoration and look towards the garden or courtyard. The smallest category is compact at 10–13 m²; the larger rooms and suites offer more useful space for a longer visit. All have marble bathrooms with bathtubs, and the duplex terrace apartments add separate living rooms and private outdoor space.
Breakfast runs until noon, and the lounge serves light French and Mediterranean food through the afternoon and evening. The location works well for Saint-Sulpice, the Luxembourg Garden and the cafés of Saint-Germain. Guests who need step-free access should note that the hotel’s elevator is not wheelchair accessible.

History & cultural connections
A convent site on rue Cassette
Hôtel de l’Abbaye traces its site to a community of Benedictine sisters who came to Paris after fleeing wars in Lorraine in the mid-seventeenth century. According to the hotel’s history, the sisters first stayed on rue Férou before moving to rue Cassette, then called rue Casset, in 1659. Anne of Austria, mother of Louis XIV, supported the community.[1]
The convent on the Hôtel de l’Abbaye site was known as the Monastery of the Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Its grounds extended toward rue du Cherche-Midi and rue de Vaugirard, forming a larger religious enclosure than the present hotel. The hotel’s name recalls that earlier use of the site; its current bedrooms and lounge belong to a much later hospitality business.[1]
Hôtel de l’Abbaye dates its opening to 1973. Its first owners, Gisèle and Pierre-Antoine Lafortune, later worked with interior designer Michel Boyer, whose renovation shaped the traditional rooms and salons. The present design retains patterned fabrics, warm colors and individual furnishings, with the garden and glass-roofed lounge at the center of daily life.[2][1]
