History & cultural connections

The history of Maison Albar - Le Pont-Neuf

Rue du Pont Neuf is a street of the 1860s. It was approved by decree on 21 June 1854, opened around 1866, and named after the Pont Neuf bridge at its southern end by an order of 26 February 1867. Its opening removed rue Estienne, rue Tirechappe, rue de la Tonnellerie and the place des Trois-Maries. The hotel says the building at numbers 23–25 dates from 1866 and describes its street front as Haussmann-style.[1][9][2]

The building was later the head office of the fashion house Céline. Company filings record a Céline establishment at 23–25 rue du Pont Neuf from 1 October 1999 to 1 November 2014 and give this address as the company's registered office. They also record the transfer of the registered office to 16 rue Vivienne, in the 2nd arrondissement, in 2014.[3][4]

The Maison Albar Hotels brand was created in 2014 by Jean-Bernard Falco and Céline Falco, née Albar, a fourth-generation hotelier, with Paris Inn Group, a hotel investment and management company, and the Chinese hotel group Plateno. This was the brand's first hotel. The offices were converted by the architects Atelier COS with the interior designer Alexandre Danan, and the hotel opened in January 2017 as Maison Albar Hôtel Paris Céline. The decoration took its theme from the artist Christo, who wrapped the Pont Neuf bridge in fabric in 1985. A wave of wood panels along the restaurant walls refers to that work. In July 2025 the city renamed the square on the bridge place du Pont Neuf – Christo et Jeanne-Claude, after Christo and Jeanne-Claude, the artist couple.[4][5][6][1]

On 17 June 2019 the hotel was renamed Maison Albar Hotels Le Pont-Neuf. The group said the new name anchored the hotel in its neighborhood and gave it a more Parisian image. The Spa Le Céline became the Spa Pont-Neuf, the Suite Céline became the Suite Pont-Neuf, and a top-floor room called La Chambre 1923 became Le Rooftop. Atout France classified the hotel as a five-star hotel with 60 rooms on 24 March 2022.[5][7]

The group dates the Albar family's start in the trade to 1923, with Odette and René Albar, restaurateurs from the Aveyron, whose first Paris hotel was the Printania. Céline Falco is the fourth generation, and the hotel says the restaurant Odette is named after her grandmother.[8][9]
