Where to Stay Near the Louvre and Palais-Royal

Stay here to walk to the Louvre, the Tuileries garden and the Palais-Royal. The hotels range from small four-star hotels on side streets to grand hotels on the rue de Rivoli.

For a room that looks over the Tuileries garden, choose a hotel on the rue de Rivoli such as Hôtel Brighton or Hôtel Regina Louvre. For an indoor pool and a direct Métro to Orly airport, choose Nolinski Paris or Le Roch Hôtel & Spa near Pyramides station. For a small four-star hotel on a side street, choose Hôtel La Tamise, Hôtel Thérèse or Hôtel de la Place du Louvre.

What staying here is like

This part of central Paris surrounds the Musée du Louvre on the Right Bank of the Seine, in the 1st arrondissement. The rue de Rivoli runs along the north side of the museum and of the Jardin des Tuileries, the garden that continues west to place de la Concorde. Along the garden the street has a continuous arcade, and several hotels stand under it.

North of the Louvre is the Palais-Royal. Its garden, laid out for Cardinal Richelieu in the 1630s, is a long rectangle of clipped trees enclosed by arcades, open every day and free to enter. The Galerie Vivienne, a glass-roofed shopping arcade from the 1820s, is close by. To the west, the avenue de l'Opéra runs from place André-Malraux northwest to the Palais Garnier opera house.

The Orangerie, which shows Claude Monet's Water Lilies paintings, stands at the Concorde end of the Tuileries. The Musée d'Orsay is across the Seine, nine minutes on foot from Hôtel Regina Louvre according to the hotel.

Who it suits

The area suits first-time visitors and museum-goers who want to walk to the main sights. The Louvre is closed on Tuesdays and open until 9 pm on Wednesdays and Fridays, so staying nearby makes an evening visit easy. From the eastern end, near the Pont Neuf, the Île de la Cité and the Marais are also within walking distance.

Look elsewhere if you want a one-, two- or three-star hotel. Every hotel compared here with a published rating holds four or five stars.

Getting around

Three Métro lines serve the area. Châtelet–Les Halles, the main RER station in central Paris, is about 500 meters from Cheval Blanc Paris.

  • Line 1 stops at Concorde, Tuileries, Palais Royal–Musée du Louvre and Louvre-Rivoli, then continues east to Châtelet and Gare de Lyon.
  • Line 14 stops at Pyramides. It runs northwest to Saint-Lazare, and southeast to Châtelet, Gare de Lyon and, since June 2024, Orly airport.
  • Line 7 stops at Pont Neuf, Palais Royal–Musée du Louvre and Pyramides, and runs north to Gare de l'Est.
  • RER B and D at Châtelet–Les Halles run to Gare du Nord, and RER B continues to Charles de Gaulle airport. RER C stops at Musée d'Orsay, across the Seine, about 550 meters from the hotels on the Tuileries side.
  • From Charles de Gaulle airport, take RER B to Châtelet–Les Halles and change to line 1. The Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal estimates about an hour in all. From Orly airport, line 14 runs to Pyramides without a change.

The tradeoffs

Entry-level rooms are small at several of the four-star hotels. Classic rooms at Hôtel Thérèse measure 10 m², single rooms at Hôtel Lumen Paris Louvre 11 to 12 m², and Classic rooms at Hôtel La Tamise 14 m². Hôtel Thérèse itself suggests its two smallest categories for short stays.

A garden view is sold as its own room category. At Hôtel Brighton, Hôtel Regina Louvre and Hôtel La Tamise, the entry-level rooms face the inner courtyard, so check the category name if you want to see the Tuileries.

  • Step-free access varies. Hôtel de la Place du Louvre says it is not accessible to people with reduced mobility. Hôtel Thérèse has one accessible room, and its lift stops at the fifth floor. Hôtel Brighton, Hôtel La Tamise, the Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal and Cheval Blanc Paris have adapted rooms.
  • Parking: most hotels have no garage and send drivers to public garages on place Vendôme or rue des Pyramides. Cheval Blanc Paris offers valet parking.
  • City tax is added to the room rate. Hôtel Regina Louvre, Le Roch Hôtel & Spa and the Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal each give it as €11.70 per person per night.
  • Hôtel Lumen Paris Louvre's owner has announced a full renovation from the end of 2026. The hotel has not said whether it will close, so ask before booking for 2027.

Choosing a hotel here

On the Tuileries side, toward place de la Concorde, Le Meurice at 228 rue de Rivoli and Hôtel Brighton at no. 218 face the garden. Salvador Dalí made Le Meurice his Paris base for about three decades from the 1930s, and its restaurant and bar are open to non-guests. Hôtel Brighton has 62 rooms and says nearly half look across the garden. Just off the rue de Rivoli, Hôtel La Tamise (19 rooms, rue d'Alger) and Maison Armance (20 rooms, rue Cambon) are four-star hotels with no restaurant.

Around Pyramides station, the choice is widest. Hôtel Regina Louvre, a 98-room five-star hotel opened in 1900, faces the Tuileries and the Louvre from place des Pyramides. Nolinski Paris (45 rooms) and Le Roch Hôtel & Spa (37 rooms) are small five-star hotels. Hôtel Lumen Paris Louvre (39 rooms) has a terrace beside the Saint-Roch church, and Hôtel Thérèse (40 rooms) is a family-run four-star hotel on a side street toward the Palais-Royal.

At the Palais-Royal end, the Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal (59 rooms, five stars) faces the palace across rue de Valois. The Hôtel du Louvre stands at the corner of place André-Malraux and the avenue de l'Opéra. Camille Pissarro took a room there in late 1897 to paint the avenue from above, and the hotel still rents a Pissarro Suite.

Toward the Seine, Hôtel de la Place du Louvre has 20 rooms of 15 or 20 m² on a short street facing the church of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois. Cheval Blanc Paris, beside the Pont Neuf in the former Samaritaine department store, has 72 rooms, the smallest of them 45 m².

  • An indoor pool: Cheval Blanc Paris (30 meters), Nolinski Paris (15 meters) or Le Roch Hôtel & Spa. Hôtel La Tamise and Maison Armance offer guests a day at the pool of a sister hotel near the Champs-Élysées.
  • A family stay: Hôtel Brighton's adjoining rooms sleep six, Hôtel Regina Louvre has two suites with a bunk-bed children's room, and Cheval Blanc Paris has a free children's club.
  • Dinner in the hotel: Cheval Blanc Paris has four restaurants, three with Michelin stars. Hôtel Brighton, Hôtel La Tamise, Maison Armance and Hôtel de la Place du Louvre have none, though all four serve breakfast and free afternoon tea.
  • An Eiffel Tower view: Hôtel Brighton's Paris Views rooms and Hôtel Regina Louvre's Eiffel Tower rooms look across the Tuileries to the tower.
