Paris travel guide
Where to Stay near Place Vendôme
Pick by street: rue de la Paix (Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, Hôtel Westminster) for the shortest walk to the Palais Garnier, rue de Castiglione and rue du Mont-Thabor (Hôtel Costes, Maison Barrière Vendôme) for the Tuileries Garden, and rue Cambon or rue Duphot (Castille Paris, Le Burgundy Paris) for Madeleine station and line 14 to Orly. Of the hotels compared here, Hôtel Mansart is the one four-star choice.

Place Vendôme is a square in the 1st arrondissement, north of the Tuileries Garden and east of the Madeleine church. Its matching façades were designed by Jules Hardouin-Mansart for Louis XIV.
Jewelers and luxury shops fill the ground floors of the square and of rue de la Paix, which runs north to the Palais Garnier opera house. Rue Saint-Honoré, just south of the square, is lined with fashion houses, and the House of Chanel is at 31 rue Cambon.
Most sights are a walk away. The Tuileries Garden is 400 to 600 meters from Mandarin Oriental, Paris, Château Voltaire and Hôtel Mansart, and the Palais Garnier about 600 meters from Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme. Le Burgundy Paris puts the Louvre 15 minutes away on foot.
Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere
- Travelers who want a five-star hotel within walking distance of the Louvre, the Tuileries Garden and the Palais Garnier.
- Travelers flying from Orly. Madeleine and Pyramides stations are on Métro line 14, which has run directly to Orly airport since June 2024.
Look elsewhere if you are on a budget. Most hotels here are classified five-star, and Hôtel Mansart is the only four-star hotel among them. More four-star hotels stand a few streets north in the Opéra area, including Hôtel Edouard 7, Maison Athénée and La Maison Favart.
Getting around
Five Métro stations and one RER station surround the area (straight-line distances):
- Madeleine (lines 8, 12 and 14): about 150 meters from Castille Paris.
- Concorde (lines 1, 8 and 12): about 280 meters from Le Burgundy Paris.
- Tuileries (line 1): about 210 meters from Maison Barrière Vendôme.
- Pyramides (lines 7 and 14): about 150 meters from Château Voltaire.
- Opéra (lines 3, 7 and 8): about 250 meters from Hôtel Mansart.
- Auber (RER A): about 400 meters from Hôtel Mansart. Underground passages connect it to Opéra station.
Line 14 is the most useful line for arriving and leaving. From Madeleine or Pyramides it runs to Gare Saint-Lazare, Châtelet–Les Halles and Gare de Lyon. Since 24 June 2024 it has continued to Orly airport without a change. A trip that starts or ends at Orly costs more than a standard Métro ticket.
For Charles de Gaulle airport, take line 14 to Châtelet–Les Halles and change to RER B, which also stops at Gare du Nord. By car, Mandarin Oriental, Paris puts the trip at 35 to 45 minutes from Charles de Gaulle and 25 to 35 minutes from Orly, depending on traffic.
The tradeoffs
Some extras are charged separately. Breakfast at Château Voltaire costs €27 or €49 a person, and valet parking costs €50 a day at Le Burgundy Paris and €55 at Mandarin Oriental, Paris.
Driving is awkward. Château Voltaire notes that its street lies inside the limited-traffic zone in the center of Paris, and neither it nor Hôtel Mansart has parking of its own. Hôtel Mansart sends drivers to the public car park at 28 place Vendôme.
Room sizes vary widely. The smallest doubles are 15 m² at Hôtel Mansart and 18 m² at Castille Paris and Maison Barrière Vendôme. Standard rooms at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme average about 30 m², and the smallest room at Mandarin Oriental, Paris is 37 m².
Castille Paris, Le Burgundy Paris, Hôtel Westminster and Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme all sell rooms over the street and over an inner courtyard, so ask for the courtyard side if street noise worries you. Mandarin Oriental, Paris says all its rooms are soundproofed.
Choosing a hotel by street
Of the hotels here, only the Hôtel Ritz stands on the square itself, at 15 Place Vendôme. César Ritz opened it in 1898, with the chef Auguste Escoffier running the kitchens, and it was restored from 2012 to 2016. You can see inside without a room: the hotel bar named for Ernest Hemingway, at the hotel's entrance at 38 rue Cambon, opens nightly from 5 pm to midnight and does not take bookings.
North toward the Palais Garnier are Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme (5 rue de la Paix) and Hôtel Westminster (13 rue de la Paix). Park Hyatt's restaurants include SEOK (Korean) and PUR' (French), and its gym is open 24 hours. Hôtel Westminster has 102 rooms and the wood-paneled Duke's Bar, and it received its fifth star in October 2025 after a four-year restoration. Hôtel Mansart, at 5 rue des Capucines just off the square, has 57 rooms with antique furniture and free afternoon tea, but no restaurant or bar.
South toward the Tuileries Garden, Hôtel Costes (7 rue de Castiglione) has a courtyard restaurant with DJ sets, a bar, a pool and a spa, so it suits guests who want a social hotel more than a quiet one. It expanded into the former Hôtel Lotti, where George Orwell is thought to have washed dishes in 1929. Maison Barrière Vendôme, on the corner of rue du Mont-Thabor and rue de Castiglione, opened in January 2025 with 26 rooms, suites and apartments.
On rue Saint-Honoré, Mandarin Oriental, Paris has 135 rooms around a courtyard garden. Toward the Madeleine, Le Burgundy Paris (6-8 rue Duphot) has 59 rooms and Le Baudelaire, a restaurant with one Michelin star. Castille Paris has 108 rooms across rue Cambon from the Ritz. At the eastern edge, Château Voltaire (55-57 rue Saint-Roch) has 32 rooms and suites, and its bar stays open until 1:30 am except on Sundays.
Pools, spas and family rooms
- Pools: Le Burgundy Paris (15 meters, indoor), Mandarin Oriental, Paris (14 meters, hotel guests only), Château Voltaire (a small basement pool, booked by the hour) and Hôtel Costes.
- No pool: Castille Paris, Maison Barrière Vendôme and Hôtel Mansart, which arranges pool time at its sister hotel on the Champs-Élysées.
- Family rooms: Castille Paris has 40 m² rooms for four, and two children under 16 stay free with an adult. Hôtel Mansart has connecting rooms with two bathrooms for up to five. Mandarin Oriental, Paris has an 82 m² family room with two bedrooms.
- Kitchens: in Maison Barrière Vendôme's Grand Apartments and in Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme's 180 m² two-bedroom apartment.
