Spoiler-freeD-503 is a mathematician, engineer, and builder of the Integral. He begins as a sincere believer in the One State and wants his diary to convert other worlds to its system. His attraction to I-330 awakens imagination, jealousy, and political doubt. After helping the Mephi and arranging O-90’s escape, he is subjected to the Great Operation. He ends emotionally emptied, loyal again, and able to betray I without distress.
