About Hôtel Esmeralda

Hôtel Esmeralda occupies a seventeenth-century building at 4 rue Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre, immediately beside Square René Viviani. With only 16 rooms, it is one of the smallest hotels in the pilot and offers a more intimate, old-building experience than the larger Saint-Michel properties nearby.

The location is unusually direct for the operating Shakespeare and Company at 37 rue de la Bûcherie, Notre-Dame, the Seine, and Sainte-Chapelle. Sylvia Beach’s original Shakespeare and Company was on rue de l’Odéon and is a different historical address, farther into the Left Bank.

The room range runs from singles to quadruples, and many categories face Notre-Dame. The official room descriptions emphasize essential facilities—private bath or shower, Wi-Fi, safe, and hairdryer—rather than a long list of hotel amenities. Book the exact bed layout and view category you need rather than assuming every room has the same outlook.
