Édouard Manet
- Painter
Met · 1858–1867
Close friends through the last decade of the poet's life. Baudelaire, by then the most feared art critic in Paris, defended Manet's paintings while the Salon public was jeering them, and Manet put him in the crowd of La Musique aux Tuileries (1862). The friendship ran until Baudelaire's stroke in 1866 and his death the following year.
