Where to Stay Near the Eiffel Tower

The area runs from the Seine at the Pont de l’Alma to École Militaire, with the Champ-de-Mars in the middle and the food shops of rue Cler to the east. Every hotel compared here is rated four or five stars.

For the shortest walk to the Eiffel Tower, choose Hôtel Le Derby Alma or The One Alma Paris near the Pont de l’Alma. For a Métro station at the door, choose Hôtel Le Walt beside École Militaire. For a pool or spa, look at Le Narcisse Blanc, Hôtel SAX Paris or Le Cinq Codet, on the Invalides and avenue de Saxe side.

What staying near the Eiffel Tower is like

The area is in the 7th arrondissement, on the Left Bank of the Seine. The Eiffel Tower stands at the river end of the Champ-de-Mars, a long public park that runs southeast to the École Militaire, the military academy founded under Louis XV. The hotels here are on the streets east and south of the park, toward Les Invalides.

East of the park lie the Gros-Caillou streets around rue Cler and rue Saint-Dominique. Hôtel La Bourdonnais is close to the food shops of rue Cler, and The One Alma Paris is on a quiet street near the Seine. James Joyce lived with his family at 2 square de Robiac, a cul-de-sac off rue de Grenelle, from 1925 to 1931, his longest Paris address.

Gustave Eiffel’s firm built the tower from 1887 to 1889 for the Exposition Universelle, which was held on the Champ-de-Mars. Claude Debussy heard a Javanese gamelan at that exhibition. Near the Pont de l’Alma, the site of Auguste Rodin’s studios at the Dépôt des Marbres now lies inside the block of the Musée du quai Branly, and nothing of the studios survives.

Who the area suits

  • First-time visitors who want to walk to the Eiffel Tower and the Seine.
  • Travelers who want an Eiffel Tower view from their room.
  • Families. Hôtel La Bourdonnais, Hôtel Le Derby Alma, The One Alma Paris and Le Cinq Codet sell suites or connecting rooms for four or more.
  • Day-trippers to Versailles. RER C runs from Champ de Mars–Tour Eiffel station to Versailles Château Rive Gauche.

None of the hotels compared here is rated below four stars. The area also has three-star hotels, such as Relais Bosquet on rue du Champ-de-Mars.

Getting around: Métro, RER, airports and train stations

  • Métro line 8 stops at École Militaire and La Tour-Maubourg, on the east side of the area. It runs directly to Invalides, Concorde, Madeleine and Opéra.
  • RER C stops at Pont de l’Alma and Champ de Mars–Tour Eiffel, along the river. Eastbound trains follow the Left Bank to Musée d’Orsay, Saint-Michel–Notre-Dame and Gare d’Austerlitz.
  • Bir-Hakeim, on Métro line 6 just inside the 15th arrondissement, is the closest Métro station to the tower. Line 6 runs to Montparnasse–Bienvenüe for Gare Montparnasse.
  • Alma–Marceau, on Métro line 9, is across the Pont de l’Alma on the Right Bank.

For Charles de Gaulle Airport, take RER C east to Saint-Michel–Notre-Dame and change to RER B. For Orly Airport, take Métro line 8 to Madeleine and change to line 14, which has run to the airport since June 2024. Line 14 from Madeleine also serves Gare Saint-Lazare and Gare de Lyon.

The tradeoffs

A hotel near the tower does not guarantee a view of it. The hotels sell the view as specific rooms: Classic Eiffel Tower and Executive Eiffel Tower rooms at Hôtel La Bourdonnais, the Eiffel Tower Suite and terrace rooms at Le Derby Alma, Eiffel Tower View rooms at Le Walt, and the two-bedroom Suite Eiffel at The One Alma Paris. Book the named category if the view matters. Hôtel SAX Paris presents its tower views as part of the rooftop, so confirm any room view before booking.

Rooms at the four-star hotels can be small. Single rooms at Hôtel La Bourdonnais measure 12 to 13 m², and Classic rooms at Le Walt measure 15 to 18 m². Hôtel La Bourdonnais, Le Derby Alma and Le Walt have no restaurant, so plan to eat out. The bars at La Bourdonnais and Le Derby Alma are not open every day.

The tower drew about 5.9 million visitors in 2022. Expect the most foot traffic on the Champ-de-Mars and the riverside streets nearest the tower. The hotels at the École Militaire end are farther from the tower, a 12- to 15-minute walk by the hotels’ own figures.

Choosing a hotel here

Near the Pont de l’Alma, Hôtel Le Derby Alma has the shortest published walk to the tower of the listed hotels, about 6 minutes. It has 33 rooms on a Paris fashion theme, a bar with a terrace on avenue Rapp, a fitness room and family suites for four. The One Alma Paris, a 40-room five-star hotel on rue Cognacq-Jay, is about 300 meters from Pont de l’Alma RER station. It has a seventh-floor rooftop lounge, Le Sommet, facing the tower, and a small spa with a pool with jets rather than a swimming pool.

At the École Militaire end, Hôtel Le Walt has 25 rooms less than 50 meters from École Militaire Métro station. A large reproduction of a classic painting hangs above every bed, and the ground-floor Patio View rooms open onto a courtyard. Every room sleeps two, so it suits couples better than families. Hôtel La Bourdonnais reopened in March 2026 with 53 rooms redesigned on a long-distance train travel theme, the Minuit Express cocktail bar and junior suites for four.

Three five-star hotels toward Les Invalides and avenue de Saxe have the most facilities:

  • Le Cinq Codet: 67 rooms in a 1930s telephone exchange off boulevard de La Tour-Maubourg. Its spa has an open-air hot tub and a hammam, free for guests, and several suites have terraces facing the dome of Les Invalides. The restaurant is Chiquette.
  • Le Narcisse Blanc Hôtel & Spa: 37 rooms on boulevard de La Tour-Maubourg, themed on the Belle Époque dancer Cléo de Mérode, with a basement swimming pool and the Cléo restaurant. It is about 20 minutes on foot from the tower.
  • Hôtel SAX Paris: 118 rooms, the largest hotel listed, in an 1899 telephone exchange on avenue de Saxe. It opened in April 2025 in Hilton’s LXR collection, with an outdoor pool, a spa and the rooftop restaurant Kinugawa Rive Gauche.

If you need step-free access, Le Walt, Le Cinq Codet and The One Alma Paris say they have adapted rooms. Hôtel La Bourdonnais and Le Derby Alma publish no accessibility details, so ask before booking.
