The two most famous men in jazz finally worked together in 1961, in the studio sessions issued as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington — Armstrong's All Stars playing Ellington's tunes with Ellington himself at the piano. The same year brought Paris Blues, Martin Ritt's film shot on Paris locations, for which Ellington wrote the score and in which Armstrong appears on screen as the trumpeter Wild Man Moore.
